Bridal Veil Resort or Cascade Skyline? Fraser Valley election candidates answer

We asked Fraser Valley candidates for the 2024 BC Election which mountain development project they support

Two different proposals could see the mountainside near Bridal Veil Falls developed into a new tourism destination. But only one can go forward.

Bridal Veil Mountain Resort is a proposed intensive ski resort that would turn the mountainside into a four-season resort with skiing and snowboarding in the winter, and mountain biking and hiking in the summer. It has plans for two village areas in the development.

Cascade Skyline Gondola, on the other hand, is a more reserved proposal put forward by the Cheam First Nation. It would connect a set of buildings on the valley floor with a restaurant and lodge on the mountain above.

The two proposals are still in the discussion stage, and the province will need to pick which one can go ahead. (Although it’s physically impossible for both to be built, as they cover the same area, that didn’t stop some candidates from saying both should be approved.)

We asked all Fraser Valley candidates which project they would support if elected.

Unfortunately, many BC Conservative candidates did not respond to our survey. The valley’s NDP candidates also refused to abide by The Current’s multiple-choice format, which was created in order to force candidates to demonstrate their personal priorities.
