What local transportation upgrades should be prioritized? Fraser Valley election candidates answer
We asked Fraser Valley candidates for the 2024 BC Election what transit upgrade they would prioritize in the valley
The Fraser Valley needs more transit infrastructure. Fraser Valley Express buses are full, regional travel north of the river is limited, and commuter travel by rail is restricted or absent in many places.
Although all parties have promised varying levels of support for new and existing transportation projects, it will take money to make it happen. And there likely won’t be enough money to make every promise happen right away.
We asked all Fraser Valley candidates what one transit improvement the province should prioritize in the region. (With widening Highway 1 to Chilliwack already planned and endorsed by both the BC NDP and the BC Conservatives, we left it out.)
Unfortunately, most BC Conservative candidates did not respond to our survey. The valley’s NDP candidates also refused to abide by The Current’s multiple-choice format, which was created in order to force candidates to demonstrate their personal priorities.
