Tyler Olsen

Tyler grew up in Vernon, graduated with a bachelor of journalism from Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, and then went to work for his hometown paper. In 2010, he moved to the Fraser Valley to start working at the now-defunct Chilliwack Times, and began reporting for the Abbotsford News in 2014. Over the last decade Tyler has covered crime, courts, politics, municipal affairs, health care and a range of other issues. He has been nominated five times for the Jack Webster Award for Community Reporting, winning twice. Having identified a local need for a journalism outlet that prioritizes quality and depth, Tyler launched the Current in March.


Grace Kennedy


Grace grew up in Langley and has been focused on journalism since she was a teen, when she helped start Langley Fine Arts School’s first online newspaper. After graduating from University of King’s College journalism program, Grace returned to the Fraser Valley and began working in community newspapers. She has been nominated for three BC Yukon Community Newspaper Association awards, and was named New Journalist of the Year in 2019. Grace started at The Current in April, and has continued to focus on community news that makes local reporting so exciting and important. She also is heavily involved in editing The Current and its stories.


Joti Grewal


After graduating from Ryerson University with a master of journalism degree Joti returned home to the Fraser Valley, where she began her career as a community reporter. She was named New Journalist of the Year in 2020 by the BC Yukon Community Newspaper Association. A first generation Canadian, Joti grew up in Abbotsford and then lived in Langley for nearly a decade. She also holds a degree in literature from UBC and a diploma in business administration from UFV.
