☀️ High 15C
Good morning,
Chilliwack’s independent film community has something to look forward to. After the closure of Cottonwood Cinema, the Chilliwack Film Society, the organization behind the Chilliwack Independent Film Festival, has secured a lease on a downtown space at 9232 Young Road and is planning Basement Cinema, a two-screen independent theatre expected to start hosting screenings in spring 2027. In our main story, we look at how the festival got here, from a single theatre in 2017 to a search for a permanent home of its own.
There’s still time to check out the festival itself. The 10th edition is underway and runs through Sunday, October 25, with 110 films across four venues, for audiences 19 and older.
