The Agenda

Johnny’s Jukebox Diner in Chilliwack is aiming to reopen at a new location with karaoke and paint nights.

Johnny’s Jukebox Diner looking to reopen with karaoke

A Chilliwack 1950s diner is hoping to reopen with a space for singing, dancing, and painting.

Johnny’s Jukebox Diner had long been a fixture inside Chillibowl Lanes, offering milkshakes, burgers, and pie alongside retro decor and charm. This summer, the diner announced it was moving to a new location on Yale Road—and the owners hope the spot will be able to offer entertainment options as well as food and alcohol.

The diner is asking to be allowed “patron participation entertainment” at the restaurant; this would include karaoke, dancing, live music, and paint nights. The new space would still be quite small—with a capacity of only 58 people including staff—with booths for seating and a stage for the entertainment.

The City of Chilliwack will hold a public information meeting on Dec. 3 about the proposal. The Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch is reviewing the diner’s application for a food primary licence, which would allow the diner to sell drinks as well as meals.

According to the diner’s Facebook page, renovations are well underway, with signs being installed at the new location in October and final touches being made to the interior.
