Good morning!
My kids have built a house. It’s in the living room, made out of blankets, toy boxes, chairs, and the coffee table. There is a TV room, a bathroom, a playroom, and a bedroom for one of their stuffed animals. It is elaborately and wonderfully built. It has also turned the living room into a huge mess.
Each night, before she falls asleep, my daughter begs me to leave it up one more day. And each night, I acquiesce. But it is not for altruistic reasons—I just really don’t want to clean it up. Maybe tomorrow I’ll make the kids break the house down and put it all away. Tonight though, I think I’m just going to sit on the couch, surrounded by toys, and be glad there is one less chore I have to do.

Abbotsford—South Langley answers

The Conservative Party’s choice of a candidate in the riding of Abbotsford—South Langley is making the electoral district’s campaign one of the most unpredictable in recent memory.
To give voters a sense of the options available, we asked each of the Abbotsford—South Langley candidates to participate in a virtual interview on local issues. Independent Mike de Jong, Liberal Kevin Gillies, Green Melissa Snazell, and Aeriol Alderking of the People’s Party all took part.
Conservative Sukhman Gill and the NDP’s Dharmasena Yakandawela did not participate. Yakandawela and Gill also refused an invitation to the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce’s all-candidates meeting.
You can find interviews with the candidates below.

The Agenda

Chilliwack is planning improvements for a number of roads in the city, including McIntosh Drive, which will see new crosswalks and pathways. 📷 City of Chilliwack
Chilliwack moving forward on 1.4km of multi-use paths
The City of Chilliwack has approved $2.4 million in new pathway improvements along the city’s Rail Trail.
The upgrades include three-metre wide paths connecting the Valley Rail Trail on Hocking Avenue, McIntosh Avenue and Knight Road. They also include curb and sidewalk replacements, along with street trees and lights, on Yale Road from the new breezeway to Nowell Street. The paths will extend Chilliwack’s Valley Rail Trail into the downtown area.
The Knight Road works also include new railway flashing lights, bells, and gate signals at the SRY crossing near Boulevard Lane. Transport Canada and Technical Safety BC both introduced new railway crossing regulations within the last 12 years, and all crossings have to be upgraded to meet the new standards by 2028.
(The upgrades are intended to increase safety at the crossing. The Southern Railway of BC tracks have seen fewer deaths than the CN line, whose crossings are also being upgraded to meet the new standards. You can read more about fatalities on that line here.)
Construction on most of the projects is expected to begin by the spring and be completed by the fall. Work on the Knight Road railway crossing specifically is expected to begin in May and be completed by the summer.
