What to watch
The new riding was created from the Langley, Fleetwood-Port Kells, South Surrey – White Rock – Cloverdale ridings before the 2015 election—all of which had voted Conservative for many years. However, Liberal candidate John Aldag won with 45% of the vote in 2015, and was narrowly ousted by Conservative Tamara Jansen in 2019. Jansen has been the subject of some controversy during in her time in Parliament—including by using a Bible quote to oppose the ban on conversion therapy. Her use of the phrase “lesbian activity” during a speech on the same issued triggered a Canada-wide mocking and a hashtag. That, and Aldag’s 2015 win, suggests the riding has the potential to flip back to the Liberals if they can rally enough support. The Greens have no candidate after Nick Dickinson-Wilde wasn’t able to fulfill nomination requirements in time. 338Canada prediction: CPC leaning
