Mission – Matsqui – Fraser Canyon (click for map) was a new riding created in advance of the 2015 election and includes Mission, the northern part of Abbotsford, Kent, Harrison Hot Springs, rural areas on the north side of the Fraser, and much of the Fraser Canyon. The riding has had two MPs: one Liberal and one Conservative. There are approximately 70,000 registered voters in the riding.

What to watch

The ridings that predated Mission – Matsqui – Fraser Canyon riding were reliably held by Conservatives, but MMFC has not been. In 2015, the riding was the last to be decided in Canada, with voters narrowly electing Liberal MP Jati Sidhu over Conservative Brad Vis. A rematch four years later saw Vis win with 42% of the vote. Liberal support still remains strong in the Abbotsford part of the riding, making a switch back to the Liberals possible, though highly dependent on the party’s fortunes across the country. The Fraser Canyon, which has relatively fewer voters, typically has strong NDP or Green leanings. 338Canada prediction: CPC likely
