Riding details

The Abbotsford riding (click for map) covers much, but not all, of the city (the area north of MacLure and Bateman roads is part of the Mission – Matsqui – Fraser Canyon riding, and significant chunks of farmland in the city’s west are in the Langley-Aldergrove riding). Abbotsford has voted Conservative since it was established in 2004. Conservative Ed Fast, who has held the seat since 2006, earned just over 50% of the vote in 2019. There are approximately 76,000 people in the riding who are eligible to vote in the upcoming election.

What to watch

The riding has been a Conservative stronghold for many years, but Fast’s proportion of the vote has decreased over the past decade as Abbotsford’s demographics have shifted. The Liberals had 22% of the vote last election. The NDP has never topped 20% in the riding. Both parties had more support in the centre of Abbotsford but still lagged behind the Conservatives. Even-stronger Conservative support in the riding’s large farming areas, and the fact that the most Liberal parts of Abbotsford are in the Mission-Matsqui-Fraser Canyon riding, makes this a projected safe seat for the party. 338Canada prediction: CPC safe seat
