☀️ High 24C
Good morning!
I didn’t get to attend any festivals over the weekend, partly because I had some work to do and partly because I had to clean my place. Next weekend, we have an open house planned for our condo. It has been on the market for a few weeks now, and we’ve had zero offers. Zero. Not a single one. All the rumours about the real estate market these days seem to be true; there are too many condos and too few buyers.
On a brighter note, it’s going to be a very warm week; summer isn’t over yet, and it’s a great time to head to your local pool, beach, or park. Speaking of pools, if you live close to the Aldergrove Community Centre, I have good news. The pool just reopened after resurfacing, and all waterpark activities are back to normal. If you go for a swim this week, you’ll be one of the first people to enjoy the fresh new tiles and a newly filled pool!

See your community through a newcomer’s eyes

As we head into the long weekend, it might be fun to revisit the Tourist-in-Your-Town series of stories the FVC ran two years ago. If you’re having a little staycation over the long weekend, maybe it’s time to head out and explore your community. Here’s some of what Grace Giesbrecht wrote in August 2023.
Local news reporters should know a little bit about the places they’re reporting on. That’s the theory. But the Fraser Valley’s a big place.
And when I (Grace) joined the Fraser Valley Current nearly a year ago, I didn’t know Agassiz from Harrison Hot Springs and had never been to either. The rest of the team here decided that someone would have to show me around.
And who better suited to that task than our spectacular readers?
Thus, the Tourist-in-your-town series was born.
In each of the articles in this series, a reporter ventures out to spend a day in an unfamiliar place, armed with recommendations from readers like you who know the area.
In these stories, you’ll get an inside look at local cafes, little restaurants, walks and hikes, museums, and other activities in each featured neighbourhood. See your community and your favourite haunts through fresh eyes—or start planning a day trip somewhere new and nearby—with each instalment.

Aldergrove Community Centre lap pool | Township of Langley
Aldergrove Community Centre lap pool reopens
After four months of renovations, the 25-metre lap pool at Aldergrove Community Centre in the Township of Langley reopened on Friday, July 25. The resurfacing project started on March 31 when the Township closed the lap pool for demolition. It also closed the small leisure pool, hot tub, sauna, and steam room for safety reasons due to their proximity to the demolition site.
“This year, the lap pool requires resurfacing due to age deterioration in multiple locations, and if not completed now, would create safety concerns for users, require a much longer closure period, and lead to higher resurfacing costs. The approved longer-term solution of installing tiles for the pool surface will give it a life expectancy of 15 years,” the Township said in a statement.
The Township closes the pool annually for regular maintenance three weeks after Spring Break. This year, however, the decision was made to extend the closure to complete the resurfacing.
“Due to weather/temperature constraints, seasonal water tables and hydrostatic pressure, the work needs to be completed during the spring/summer months,” the Township said.
Now that the work is complete, the Township said that starting Monday, July 28, all swimming and water park activities will return to normal.
