Monday - Jan. 20, 2025 - Chilliwack to get another roundabout

Good morning!

Today Americans are watching the inauguration of incoming US president Donald Trump. Ordinarily, I would not know this was happening until afterwards—the benefit of being Canadian and not needing to be concerned about the administration of another country I suppose. This year is, for obvious reasons, different. Trump’s tariff threat has direct implications for Canada and I suspect there will be more international challenges in the four years to come.

So today, I am embracing Canadiana. Specifically, I will be listening to “The Trees” by Toronto’s Rush, “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet” by Winnipeg’s Bachman-Turner Overdrive, “Truck Got Stuck” by Taber’s Corb Lund, “The Night Pat Murphy Died” by St. John’s Great Big Sea, “We’re Here for a Good Time” by Vancouver’s Trooper, and a hilarious new find: “Tim’s Run” by Oyen’s OGR-Scintilla.

History suggests that new leadership in Ottawa and the White House won’t deliver a crossborder deal to protect Sumas Prairie from the Nooksack River.

But that doesn’t stop Abbotsford Mayor Ross Siemens from hoping.

Chilliwack to add new roundabout to Prest Road

The City of Chilliwack is looking to add another roundabout to Prest Road this year, as part of multi-year widening efforts of the north-south connector road.

The city is currently soliciting bids for a contractor to upgrade Prest Road between McGuire Road and Bailey Road. The construction will include the creation of a new single-lane roundabout at the intersection of McGuire Road and Prest Road, complete with concrete curbs, a sidewalk, streetlights, drainage, culverts, and riparian planting.

The work will also include 1,500m of road widening between the roundabout and the Bailey Road roundabout. The project is part of a long-standing series of upgrades on Prest Road, aimed at widening and improving the roadway from Highway 1 to Promontory.

Proposals are being accepted until Wednesday, Jan. 29.
