Prod at the paranormal. Traverse tales of the undead. Hang on the edge of horror. Or simply celebrate at a costume party.

This Halloween season, the Fraser Valley is filled with events for ghouls and guys of all spook-levels—whether you’re hoping to scream at a corn maze, laugh at a horror film, or dress up for a dance. The Halloween spirit is extended to both kids and adults, with 19-plus parties, teen carnivals, and kid-friendly treats.

Each event comes with a scare rating: 🎃 fun for everyone, 🎃🎃 light frights, 🎃🎃🎃 chills and thrills.

Langley

Halloween in Langley is heavy on ghostly experiences, although you can lace up your dancing shoes for some fun without fright.

Grave Tales - Fort Langley Historic Site

Scare rating: 🎃🎃

Ages: Eight and above

The Fort Langley National Historic Site has seen its share of ghosts, and visitors will get a chance to learn more about those spooky apparitions at the site’s annual Grave Tales tour. The after dark tour features two or three hours of spine chilling stories and a guided walk through the site. Although some of the experience is of the “bump in the night” variety, many of the stories are tales of real Fort Langley residents who are buried nearby. The tours are offered Fridays to Sundays, with varying degrees of spook. The youth edition runs from 6 to 8pm on Saturdays and Sundays, while the two-hour adults edition is from 7 to 9pm and 8 to 10pm Friday to Sunday. The three-hour tour goes from 9pm to midnight Fridays to Sundays. Advance booking is required, and the tours run until early November.

Halloween dance - Rock Step Swing Dance Society

Ages: Adults

For those wanting to swing their fears away, Langley’s Rock Step Swing Dance Society is hosting a Halloween-themed swing dance on Friday, Nov. 1. The night starts with a beginner swing lesson at 7:30pm, and is followed by an evening of dancing from 8:30 to 10:30pm.

Costumes are suggested—the society said there may be a prize for the spookiest. After the night of dancing, patrons are invited to visit the Willowbrook Denny’s to continue the night of socializing and fun. Tickets are $10 online or $15 at the door.

A Haunted Halloween - Circus Lab

Scare rating: 🎃🎃

Ages: Nine and up.

Students at Langley’s circus school will be showing off their skills in a haunted Halloween performance on Saturday, Oct. 26. The night of circus acts is suitable for ages nine and up, and patrons are invited to roam, mingle, and enjoy the eerie performances.

The performers will be showcasing their skills at 3 and 7pm on the Saturday. Tickets are $20 online.

Abbotsford-Mission

In Abbotsford and Mission, Halloween brings a range of terror, from carnival games to creepy corn mazes.

Halloween Carnival - Mission Youth Centre

Scare rating: 🎃

Ages: 12 and up

Keep the adults away: the Mission Youth Centre is hosting a Halloween Carnival for youth aged 12 to 18 on Thursday, Oct. 24. The teens can enjoy fun fair foods, carnival games, a black light candy hunt from 4 to 8pm at the centre. There will also be face painting, a costume contest, a raffle, and music to keep the party hopping.

One Cut of the Dead - Abbotsford Film Festival

Scare rating: 🎃🎃

Ages: The movie is rated 18+.

Is it scary or funny? Why not both!

The Abbotsford Film Society presents One Cut of the Dead, a Japanese horror-comedy, on Friday, Oct. 25. The indie film, directed by Shin'ichirō Ueda, is follows the story of a TV film crew documenting a zombie outbreak. The movie was filmed in an ambitious half-hour-long single cut.

One Cut of the Dead will be screened at The Banquet Room on Clearbrook Road starting at 8pm. Admission is $7. Details online.

Scariest Corn Maze in Canada - Maan Farms

Scare rating: 🎃🎃🎃

Ages: 14 and up.

Maan Farms in Abbotsford is inviting visitors to take on what it calls the Scariest Corn Maze in Canada. The creepy corn maze is open Fridays to Sundays until the end of October, as well as Halloween night itself.

The farm features three different experiences, each with its own haunting theme. The Kept: Slaughterhouse is one of the tallest corn mazes the farm has ever grown, and promises a “descent into horror” with non-touch interactive elements. Forsaken: The Way Down features different phobia-themed rooms, and the ability for actors to interact with you while you explore. Echo: Homestead is a haunted house, but only a limited number of guests are allowed in each night.

Costume creation extravaganza

If you want a customized, cut-rate costume, Mission’s Opening Nite Theatre might have just the thing for you. The community theatre group is liquidating its old costumes on Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Clarke Theatre.

You can grab a costume for free and make sure it fits thanks to on-site seamstresses and sewing machines. Details online.

Halloween Howl and Monster Mash

The Abbotsford Recreation Centre hosts Halloween Howl, featuring entertainment, crafts, games, and a bounce castle Oct. 25 from 10am to noon, for kids 12 and under. Cost is $4.10.

For preschoolers, the city’s Matsqui Recreation Centre hosts Monster Mash on Oct. 29 from 10:15 to 11:15am. The event costs $14.55 and is billed as a “one0day wonder where we will play, create and learn all things monsters.” A similar event takes place on Halloween day. More details are here.

Eastern Fraser Valley

Heading out east brings more fun than fright, although the Kilby Historic Site does have a ghostly evening for those wanting a shiver down their spine.

Folk Night Episode VI - Bricklayer Brewing

Scare rating: 🎃

Ages: Adults

Bricklayer Brewing in downtown Chilliwack hosts a Halloween version of its popular Folk Night on Friday, Oct. 25. Singer-songwriter Alison May will host the live music night once again, joined by folk artists Rocky Riobo and Retrofit.

Tickets are $10 in advance, and shows have sold out in the past, so people wanting to attend should get theirs early. Come in costume for a chance to win prizes. Details and tickets are online.

Bump in the Night - Kilby Historic Site

Scare rating: 🎃🎃

Ages: All (depending on the event)

The Kilby Historic Site hosts the Cornerstone Supernatural team as they look for paranormal activity at the historic site on Friday, Oct. 25 and Saturday, Oct. 26. Investigators will be set up in various "hot spots" at the historic site, and visitors will explore the buildings in an after-dark guided tour. There are two tours a night: one starting at 6pm and the other at 8pm. Tickets and details are online.

For kids and people wanting a less ghostly experience, the Kilby Historic Site is also hosting a family-friendly "slight-fright" Halloween event on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 11am to 3pm. Come in costume and bring a treat bag to explore the graveyard of puns and the hair-raising hotel. Details online.

Halloween Howl - Sasquatch Inn

Scare rating: 🎃

Over in Harrison Mills, people wanting to party the night away can head out to The Sasquatch Inn Saturday, Oct. 26 for a Halloween Howl costume party. The night will start at 7pm and feature live music by Down n' Dirty Rockabillity. There is no cover charge, and patrons will be able to win prizes for best costume. Details online.

Langley

Krause Berry Farms. Located near Highway 1 at 6179 248 St.—see a map here. Open Wednesday to Sunday. Free to enter. Pumpkins are now buy one, get one free. More details here.

Aldor Acres Pumpkin Patch. Located between Fort Langley and Glen Valley at 249990 - 84 Ave.—see a map here. Open 9am to 5pm until Oct. 31. Tickets are $17 per person/$85 for a family. Pumpkins cost extra and are priced by size. More details here.

Eagle Acres Pumpkin Patch. Located east of Fort Langley at 8796 240 St.—see a map here. Open Oct. 25-27. Tickets are $14 for adults, $12 for children and seniors. Pumpkins are extra and priced by weight. More details here.

Loft Country Pumpkin Patch. Located west of Aldergrove at 2640 248. St.—see a map here. Open Oct. 25 to 27. Tickets are $19 for adults, $17 for seniors, and $76 for families on weekends; cheaper on Fridays. Pumpkins are extra. More details here.

Abbotsford

Taves Family Farm. Located near the border at 333 Gladwin Rd.—see a map here. Open seven days a week, 9:30am to 5:30pm. Free on weekdays just to pick pumpkins. Tickets (needed on weekends) are $6.10 per car load for pumpkin picking, fun passes for activities are betwen $25 and $30. More details online.

Willow View Farms. Located near the border at 288 McCallum Rd.—see a map here. Open until Oct. 31, closed Mondays. Free to enter pumpkin patch. Mini pumpkins are 99 cents each; carving pumpkins are $2 to $12; giant pumpkins are more. More details online.

Maan Farms. Located near the border at 790 McKenzie Rd.—see a map here. Open until Nov. 3. Admission tickets vary by day and range from $15 on Tuesdays to $23 on the weekend. Pumpkins are extra. More details online.

Chilliwack

Petey’s Pumpkin Patch. Located in Rosedale at 9423 Gibson Rd.—see a map here. Open until Nov. 2. Pumpkins will be smashed on Nov. 1 and 2. Tickets cost $12, or $10 for seniors. Pumpkins cost $3 to $25. More details online.
