Friday, August 4, 2023 edition - Highway 1 expansion plans revealed

Fraser Valley Current

Good morning!

How do you treat a bee sting? That became a big topic of discussion on the weekend after my mom was stung at my nieceā€™s birthday party. It seemed every household had a different remedy: creams, baking soda, ice, toothpaste, and so on.

The number of ideas floating around got us into a debate about what actually works. My mom wasnā€™t too bothered by the sting; it wasnā€™t her first time. Those who had never been stung before kept their guard up because they feared they may have an unknown allergy. I was told I was stung before as a kid, thankfully I donā€™t remember it.

Members today will learn about all those recent rail crossing improvement projectsā€”and who pays. Tomorrow, Tyler will write about fighting email programs and firewalls as part of his paper boy delivery duties as editor of The Current.

Weā€™ll see you back in your inbox on Tuesday. Enjoy the long-weekend and thanks.

The Agenda

A new labour agreement was ratified last month. | BC Transit/Facebook

Transit service returns to the Fraser Valley

Bus rides will be free for the month of August when transit service resumes in the Fraser Valley on Sunday after four months of disruptions.

Free rides are also available for HandyDart clients. That service resumed earlier this week.

Fraser Valley residents have been left without transit services since bus drivers walked off the job in March. On July 21, a new labour agreement was ratified between drivers and First Transit, a BC Transit contractor. The deal came after the province appointed a veteran mediator to bring both sides together.

Transit updates and schedules can be found online.
