☀️ High 30C
Good morning!
It was a smoky and hazy morning today, which is no surprise as the BC Wildfire Service website is reporting that there are 158 active wildfires throughout the province right now. In the last five days, there were 6,047 lightning strikes! Dozens of new fires started just this week.
The high temperatures seem relentless; it’s been weeks of 30+ degree weather and even when it cools down slightly, it quickly heats up again. Some news outlets are reporting that the province is setting new temperature records. It’s dry, hot and burning.
This kind of situation triggers my own climate change anxieties. The province says it is committed to reducing emissions, but it has failed at meeting its own targets.
What is B.C. going to look like in 20 or 30 years? How do you imagine it?

Summer is winding down, Labour Day has passed, the kids are back in school, and the air is cooling ever so slightly, with the seasonal rains expected to begin around mid-month. There’s no shortage of things to do and places to visit this September to bid farewell to summer and welcome the fall. We’ve curated this list to feature a wide range of events and activities, hopefully capturing as many interests as possible in one article.

Taste of Abby food festival returns
For the fourth year, the Taste of Abby food festival returns Sept. 19-28, celebrating Abbotsford’s agricultural heritage, vibrant food scene, music, and culture. The Agenda

BC Transit Buses in Chilliwack, BC. 📸 Shutterstock
BC Transit fares to change in Mission and Abbotsford on Oct. 1
Commuters in Mission and Abbotsford can expect to see increases in BC Transit fares starting Oct. 1. BC Transit announced in a press release that all riders, including seniors, youth and handyDART riders will have to pay $2.50 for a single ride.
High-school and post-secondary students will see the greatest increases in fares, with four-month semester passes increasing from $110 for high-school students to $150, and from $150 to $165 for post-secondary students.
Several fare products will be discontinued starting in October. The 10-ride adult and concession passes will be discontinued as well as all other concession fares.
The only fares that will decrease in October are the DayPASS fares, which will decrease from $5.65 to $5 for all riders.
“DayPASS prices will decrease to $5 for all riders and will shift to a new DayPASS policy after payment of the second fare. This new policy removes the 90-minute time restricted digital and paper transfers and instead allows passengers unlimited travel during the day at the price of two single fares,” BC Transit said in a press release. “DayPASS is available for purchase aboard the bus with cash or automatically applied to a Umo app or Umo card after the second Single Ride fare payment of the day.”
