Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2023 - A belated Thanksgiving

🌧 High 14C

Good morning!

Not infrequently, I marvel at my fortune to have a job that doesn’t require me to be on my feet, actively working all day long. I spent a couple days building a fence last month and it nearly killed me. The closest this job gets to that is a day like today, when I’m sick, running a fever and… well… typing words into a computer wearing my comfiest pants with a cup of tea beside the keyboard. This job could be much worse. Appropriately, then, we’re sharing your responses to the things you’re thankful for in our region.

Thanks to everyone who shared their thoughts—beyond being a sweet story, it’s sparked a couple other ideas and given us an article to publish on a day where my fever-wracked brain may not be running on all cylinders. Not that I should be complaining at all.

The Agenda

Modern building to replace Harrison gas station store

A developer wants to demolish part of a gas station in the centre of Harrison Hot Springs and replace it with a small hotel.

The proposal to build the hotel, along with seven retail business units, went before Harrison council yesterday evening. The developer hopes to keep three of the six gas pumps on site, while demolishing the other three and the current Husky convenience store building. A new modern building would replace it, with a convenience store on the bottom floor.

Staff had recommended council approve a development permit subject to certain conditions. We’ll provide an update in a coming newsletter about Harrison council’s decision.
