Good morning!

My sister-in-law invited me to pick berries with my niece and nephews this weekend. It reminded me of my summers picking berries. Once school was out my cousins and I would often tag along with our grandparents. There were no expectations of us. We spent more time running around the farm than actually doing any of the work. And we would often get into our lunches soon after arriving. I couldn’t see myself out in the heat today but I can see the appeal as a kid.

The Agenda

Langley Township council will consider $33 million in upgrades to Yorkson Community Park. | Langley Township

Park upgrades, road improvements, public hearing: Langley Township council preview

Langley Township council will consider spending millions at Monday’s meeting for a variety of projects.

Councillors will vote on approving funds to complete intersection improvements for Rawlison Crescent and Glover Road ($250,000), field upgrades at Noel Booth Community Park ($7.9 million), technology upgrades at Langley Events Centre ($1.2 million), design and construction of the Willowbrook Connector/208 Street from 64 Avenue to 72 Avenue ($33 million), construction of a spray park, playground, and washroom facilities at Yorkson Community Park ($7 million).

Council will also hold a public hearing Monday on a proposal to amend the Carvolth Neighbourhood Plan to accommodate development of 223-unit apartment buildings at 86 Avenue and 202 Street.

Bradner rest stop improvements slated

BC’s Transportation Ministry is planning work to expand truck parking at the Bradner Road rest stop. As part of its planned work to widen Highway 1, the ministry has applied to the Agricultural Land Commission to enlarge and overhaul the rest stop midway between Langley and Abbotsford.

The ministry needs the ALC’s permission to alter the site. A wetland would also be created to make up for activities elsewhere on the site or along the project corridor. (The Current wrote about such wetland offset schemes last year.)

The plans are on Abbotsford council’s agenda for its Monday meeting. Council will also weigh in on a proposed density bonus program that would set out the manner in which developers can provide money for amenities in exchange for permission to construct larger and taller buildings.
