⛈️ High 11C

Good morning,

A family is asking for help locating their one-year-old red mini poodle, Lily, missing since Monday evening near 6211 Chilliwack River Road. She's very shy and easily spooked, so if you spot her, please don't chase her — just call 604-307-4914. Here’s a photo of Lily.

On a happier note, campers can breathe easy heading into the long weekend: the campfire ban for the Fraser Valley is being lifted at noon.

And lastly, a reminder that since Monday is a holiday for us too, we’ll be back in your inboxes on Wednesday 🙂

– Emily

Fraser Valley business leaders gather at UFV for second economic summit

Photo: The Fraser Valley Business Coalition

The Fraser Valley Business Coalition is bringing together regional business leaders, economists, and policy voices for its second annual economic summit on May 21 at the University of the Fraser Valley in Abbotsford — and Fraser Valley Current's own William Johnson will be emceeing the day.

The summit runs 8:30 AM to 4 PM at Evered Hall in the Student Union Building, and the program is a pretty good snapshot of the questions on a lot of local business owners' minds right now. What's actually happening with the Canadian economy? How does the Fraser Valley fit into national trade and supply chains? And what does the current political climate mean for businesses trying to plan ahead?

Those questions get unpacked across three panels, featuring a mix of local and national voices — including Chief David Jimmie of Squiala First Nation, journalist Rob Shaw, a regional director from the Bank of Canada, and representatives from the Port of Vancouver and local food producers, among others.

The day opens with a keynote economic update from Patrick McAllister of RBC Dominion Securities, followed by a fireside chat with Crystal Arnberg from the Bank of Canada's B.C. and Yukon office. Montreal MP Anthony Housefather will also deliver a government address on federal priorities and economic resilience.

The summit is presented by RBC, with support from Enbridge, Envision Financial, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, Longboard Architectural, BC Dairy, and FortisBC.
