Cultus Lake Waterpark is still not ready to welcome visitors after an electrical incident sent 12 children to the hospital last month.

The water park is eyeing a mid-July opening, though it’s not set in stone. Because of this, no tickets will be sold for the latter part of this month and all passes sold for late June and early July will be refunded.

“We are continuing to work through the inspection and approval process with Technical Safety BC, and we understand that this process will take time,” the water park said in an update on its website. “Once a reopening date, operating hours, and ticket options have been finalized, new tickets will be released for purchase.”

The water park has been shut down since June 16, the day after 12 children aged 10 to 13 sustained burns on their feet after touching an electrified handrail while waiting in line for one of the rides.

The injured children—10 of whom were visiting on a field trip from Minnekhada Middle School in Port Coquitlam—were all sent to hospital, with two transported by air ambulance. All of them were reported to be in stable condition later that day.

Technical Safety BC says the park must remain closed until the operator fixes all “electrical non-compliances.”

The operator of the Cultus Lake park had previous safety non-compliances at another water park in Vernon as recently as last year, according to a CBC report.
