Abbotsford has taken another step toward building new sports and recreation facilities. City council has directed staff to begin the next phase of site and design work at a 39-acre city-owned property at 1010 LeFeuvre Road.

"Council's priority is clear, we need more recreation and sports amenities and park space to serve a growing community," said Mayor Ross Siemens.

The property is being considered as a future home for sports fields, courts, and other amenities, tying into the city's existing plans for sport fields and courts, arenas, and aquatic facilities. Site testing and feasibility work will continue through the fall.

Siemens said the city's approach could still shift as work continues, but the goal remains steady.

"While the path forward may continue to evolve, our commitment to creating new recreation opportunities for Abbotsford residents remains unwavering," he said.
