$7 million in federal funding will widen and improve a busy stretch of Fraser Highway

A busy stretch of Fraser Highway in Abbotsford is getting a significant upgrade, with $7 million in federal funding secured for Phase 2 of a multi-year improvement project.
The funding, from the federal Build Communities Strong Fund, will go toward widening Fraser Highway to five lanes between Station Road and Lefeuvre Road, adding multi-use pathways on both sides, upgrading traffic signals with smart signal technology, and adding turn lanes at Bradner Road and Ross Road. A new crosswalk will also be added to support access to Engineer Park.
More than 30,000 vehicles travel Fraser Highway daily, making it one of Abbotsford's most heavily used corridors. Phase 1, completed in 2023, added centre-left turn lanes and intersection improvements along the same stretch. Phase 3, still to come, will extend the five-lane widening and multi-use pathways from Lefeuvre Road up to Mt. Lehman Road.
The total project cost is $13.5 million, with the City of Abbotsford covering the remainder beyond the federal contribution.
