Friday evening, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Premier John Horgan spoke to reporters about the flooding situation in Abbotsford from Victoria—and they didn’t really answer the Current’s question.

“How long should people in the Fraser Valley expect to wait before the dikes that protect them are upgraded?” we asked. Trudeau nodded the question over to Horgan, who did say that things do need to change in how flood protections are funded. (You can read more about that in our main flood story, or by watching the conference video.)

But before the pair fielded questions, Trudeau spent the afternoon touring Abbotsford to see how the flood-struck community was faring. Current editor Tyler Olsen was among the journalists present during the tour, which started at Abbotsford’s emergency operations centre and continued on to the Clayburn Village, which also experienced significant flooding during the first atmospheric river two weeks ago.
