With multiple projects underway to expand capacity at Langley schools, one high school is ready to welcome an extra 300 students.

A new addition at Langley Secondary School, which began construction in January 2025, is now open. The add-on brings 12 new classrooms, a science lab, and special-education spaces to the school. It also boasts new energy-efficient mechanical systems that improve air quality.

To fund the project, the province provided nearly $28 million, and the school district contributed $1 million.

Langley Secondary isn't the only school in the township getting a boost in seats—construction will soon begin on additions at nearby elementary schools. A $6 million add-on will bring 100 seats to Josette Dandurand Elementary, and a $12 million addition will open 200 seats at Donna Gabriel Robins Elementary.

“The new addition at Langley Secondary and upcoming projects at two elementary schools will help ensure students in Langley have the space and supports they need to succeed," said Bowinn Ma, minister of infrastructure.

The additions are part of the province's plan to accommodate the growing population in the Township of Langley.

And there's more to come. Next summer, construction will begin on a 300-seat addition at R.E. Mountain Secondary School, and two new schools are slated to open in fall 2027.

The new schools will create space for around 2,800 students in the Smith neighbourhood of Willoughby Slope. Emery Dosdall Secondary and stɑtl̓əw̓ Middle School will share a campus, with 1,900 seats opening in the high school and 900 opening in the middle school.
