The Fraser Valley’s best farmers markets

The sun is shining, the flowers are blooming, and that means Fraser Valley residents are heading out to farmers’ markets across the region.

Typically kicking off in the spring and closing up when the weather turns in the fall, farmers’ markets showcase the best of the valley’s small businesses. Although the first two years of the pandemic saw many farmers’ markets close down, a number have bounced back for the 2022 season. There is at least one market in nearly every community, so scroll through the list or check the map to find one near you.

Although there are some one-time markets happening this summer, this list focuses on markets you’ll be able to find throughout the season. You can also find a list of Fraser Valley farms that sell to consumers here, or location-specific lists below.

Langley

Fort Langley Village Farmers’ Market

Dates: Every Saturday from April 23 to Dec. 17Time: 9am to 3pmLocation: St. Andrew’s Historic Chapel (9025 Glover Rd)Website: https://fortlangleyvillagefarmersmarket.org/Details: The Fort Langley Village Farmers’ Market is one of the latest-running in the valley, going until December each year—plus a few special holiday markets in the winter. In the summer, you can find it next to the historic St. Andrew’s Chapel on Glover Road.

Langley Community Farmers’ Market

Dates: Every Wednesday from June 1 to Aug. 31Time: 3pm to 7pmLocation: Derek Doubleday Arboretum (21559 Fraser Hwy)Website: https://lcfm.ca/Details: This late afternoon market started in 2009 at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, but moved to its new location at the Derek Doubleday Arboretum in 2021. The market offers a nutrition coupon program for low-income families, pregnant people, and seniors to help them purchase local vegetables, fruits, nuts, eggs, dairy, cut herbs, meat and fish.

Abbotsford

Abbotsford Farm and Country Market

Dates: Every Saturday from May 7 to Oct. 29Time: 9am to noonLocation: Jubilee Park (2552 McCallum Rd)Website: https://afcm.ca/Details: Abbotsford’s longest running farmers’ market, the Abbotsford Farm and Country Market got its start nearly two decades ago. Today, it features local Abbotsford vendors selling produce, baked goods, homemade crafts, and more.

Mission

Deroche Farmer’s Market

Dates: Every Saturday from May 7 to Sept. 3Time: 10am to 3pmLocation: 10220 N. Deroche Rd at the corner of Lougheed HwyWebsite: https://www.facebook.com/derochefarmersmarketDetails: The Deroche Farmer’s Market not only focuses on local vendors for produce, baked goods, and artisanal products, it also offers entertainment on most Saturdays. The entertainment is typically live music by local singer-songwriters, although it has also included an opening ceremony by a Sts’ailes drummer.

Mission City Farmers’ Market

Dates: Every Saturday from May 7 to Oct. 8Time: 9am to 1pmLocation: Welton Street and 2nd Avenue, behind the Canada Post (7337 Welton St)Website: https://missioncityfarmersmarket.com/Details: The Mission City Farmers’ Market has been around for 26 years in Mission, and has been moved six times. Although it’s currently located on the corner of Welton Street and 2nd Avenue, the market is considering a more permanent location at Centennial Park on 11th Avenue. The market held two public information sessions for market-goers in mid-July about the idea.

Twilight Treasures Artisans Market

Dates: Every Thursday from May 5 to Sept. 1Time: 4pm to 8pmLocation: Griner Park (32835 Janzen Ave)Website: https://www.twilighttreasuresartisanmarket.com/Details: The Twilight Treasures market might not focus on produce, but it does feature local makers from across the Fraser Valley. It also features young entrepreneurs as vendors, and encourages visitors to use their space for picnics.

Chilliwack

Downtown Chilliwack Community Market

Dates: Every Sunday from May 29 to Sept. 18Time: 10am to 2pmLocation: Parking lot in front of Pick Eco Refills (9360 Mill St)Website: https://dccm.ca/Details: The Downtown Chilliwack Community Market aims to be accessible for everyone, and is held at the parking lot on Mill Street in downtown Chilliwack. It has a handy online product look up tool, so you can see if what you want will actually be at the market before you head out.

The Eco Market

Dates: Every Wednesday from May 4 to Aug. 31Time: 4pm to 8pmLocation: Sardis Park (Corner of School Lane and Manuel Road)Website: http://theecomarket.ca/Details: The 11-year-old market actually started in Yarrow, but moved to Sardis Park after its first year. Run by the Floystrup family, the market focuses on sustainable products and materials.

Yarrow Farm Market

Dates: Every Friday from May to SeptemberTime: 5pm to DuskLocation: Yarrow Pioneer Park (4390 Kehler St)Website: https://theyarrowfarmmarket.com/Details: The Yarrow Farm Market is now in its seventh year, taking over Yarrow Pioneer Park every Friday evening in the summer. The market is out at the park rain or shine, so bring an umbrella if it’s drizzling but you still want fresh goods.

Agassiz

Agassiz Farm Fresh Market

Dates: Every Thursday from June 23 to Sept. 1Time: 4pm to 7pmLocation: Agassiz Pioneer Park (7011 Pioneer Ave)Website: https://www.agassizfarmfreshmarket.com/Details: A relatively new market, the Agassiz Farm Fresh Market started in 2018 and is back for the 2022 season. In addition to its weekly offerings with vendors, kids games, and food trucks, the market also offers vendor opportunities for youth between the ages of six and 16 who want to sell their wares.

Hope

Hope Farmer’s Market

Dates: Every Friday from May 20 to Sept. 2Time: 9:30am to 2:30pmLocation: 3rd Avenue between Wallace Street and Fort StreetWebsite: https://www.facebook.com/HopeChamberofCommerceDetails: Hosted by the Hope and District Chamber of Commerce, the Hope Farmer’s Market takes over 3rd Avenue every Friday in the summer. In true Hope fashion, the market sometimes includes chainsaw carving demonstrations.
