The Fraser Valley’s songs of summer
There are many summer music festivals across the valley celebrating local artists. Most recently winners of the Fraser Valley Music Awards were at the centre of those celebrations at Abbotsford’s Jam in Jubilee.
The FVMA were an initiative started seven years ago by the University of the Fraser Valley’s campus radio station, CIVL Radio. This year there were 36 nominees recognized in a variety of music genres like rock, country, jazz, hip hop, among many others.
Last week, fans of the local music scene gathered at Jubilee Park to learn of the winning artists while taking in performances from some of the nominees.
Etienne Siew was one of the artists who performed live at the event. They were a runner up in their category for country artist of the year, but instead were selected by the Mission Folk Music Fest to perform at next year’s festival. This year that slot featured Chilliwack’s The Crescent Sky.
Today, we take a look (and listen) at this year’s award winners.
