Remembrance Day ceremonies in the Fraser Valley

Tomorrow, Canadians will honour the sacrifices made by those who selflessly served this country in war. There are multiple in-person Remembrance Day ceremonies scheduled across the Fraser Valley. Many of the services will also be streamed online.

Here’s a list of where you can find a ceremony in your own neighbourhood.

ABBOTSFORD

A ceremony will take place at Thunderbird Memorial Square, next to city hall and the Clearbrook Library. A short parade will begin at 10:30am from Cruikshank Avenue, turning on Simon Avenue towards the square. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 10:45am. View a schedule of road closures here. CHILLIWACK

The local legion is holding events downtown at Veterans Memorial Park and in Sardis at All Sappers Memorial Park. Both ceremonies begin at 10:30am. The Stólō Veterans’ Remembrance Day service will take place at the Coqualeetza Longhouse. Doors open at 9am with the ceremony beginning at 10am.

LANGLEY

There are four Remembrance Day ceremonies in Langley. In Langley City, the public is invited to gather at the Douglas Park Cenotaph. The ceremony begins at 10:50am. Douglas Crescent from 204 to 206 streets and a section of Park Avenue will be closed from 6:30am to 1pm. In Aldergrove, a service is being held at the Aldergrove Legion. A parade will begin at 10:45am from Old Yale Road and 268 Street. The procession will travel west on Fraser Highway to the Legion. The service will begin at the Legion at 10:50am. Ceremonies will also be held at the Fort Langley Cenotaph at 10:15am and at the Murrayville Cenotaph at 10:30am. To watch the Fort Langley ceremony online, click here. MISSION

A Remembrance Day service will be held at the local legion. The service will begin at 10:50am followed by a $10 lunch.

HOPE

Friday’s ceremony will begin with a parade at 10:45am. The procession will leave from the Legion on Fort Street and travel to the Cenotaph at Memorial Park on Wallace Street, where the Remembrance Day service will be held until noon.

AGASSIZ

The local legion in Agassiz is also holding a ceremony at the Cenotaph at Vimy and Morrow roads. The public should meet at the legion by 10:45am. The service begins at 11am.

Tomorrow local legions across the country will conclude their annual poppy campaign. Donations collected during the campaign support local veterans and their families. Poppies are often readily available at business store-fronts.
